  • An American in Paris
  • Overture to Girl Crazy
  • arias and duets from Porgy and Bess (80th anniversary of premiere of the musical) including: Summertime, Bess You Is My Woman Now, I Loves You Porgy, I Got Plenty of Nuttin’

The inaugural concert of the festival will be a great celebration of American music of the first half of the twentieth century. During this August evening the amphitheater of the Forest Opera will be filled with the sounds of the well-known and much-loved works of George Gershwin. This great musical gala is an opportunity to see and hear American opera stars who will come to the Baltic coast to entertain the Sopot audience. Soprano Laquita Mitchell and baritone Kenneth Overton will be special guests. The evening will also feature a performance by a Polish pianist Adam Makowicz who has been included in the four hundred most distinguished Poles in the history of the United States of America. The Forest Opera, as the name suggests, was originally a place of staging operas - this event is therefore a return to its roots in an attractive form of a concert.
